RETROMEDYA as being the founder of SMSTV Platform and brand, holds the intellectual rights of the Platform as well. SMSTV brand, in other words is the set of Mobile Value Added Services runs on Show TV interface and as a marketing channel as well.

RETROMEDYA runs and manages the operation through various services and several other applications, and has an agreement with Turkcell, Telsim Vodafone and Avea to launch and operate RETROMEDYA mobile services as well.

At the core of our offering is our operator-grade network, an always-on, interoperable system linking your technology to all mobile operators—between devices, across networks, and around the world.

Technical Platform integrates SMS, MMS, WAP, J2ME, WEB and IVR technologies. Applications can be added to system within a common web interface.

SMS, MMS, WAP, J2ME and WEB platforms share a common Oracle DB Server that works fully integrated as well as separate modules. Windows 2000 Server is the current operating system of the platforms. However, these platforms are developed with J2EE technologies and can run independent from the type of operating system. Every platform contains a MySQL DB Server as a backup server in case of any failure caused by Oracle DB or communication problem with Oracle DB. IVR platform is also integrated with other platforms but it has its own Oracle DB Server.

FLEXIBILITY & FRAMEWORK

Retromedya enables product integration that exceeds operator-grade requirements for redundancy, messaging volume, and speed of delivery for SMS, MMS, WAP, and IM interoperability and its connection options include SS7, SMPP, UCP, CIMD, SMTP, WCTP, XML/HTTP, and more, providing operators with ultimate flexibility in terms of connectivity options. Our product and service offerings support the broadest portfolio of handsets and transcoding matrixes in the industry, ensuring handset interoperability. We also provide optional message filtering and transcoding to reconcile unsupported media prior to delivery to the destination network.

Our Technical Platform is capable of creating new applications and connecting these applications to other parties via gateways instantaneously.

Technical platform consists of two main parts: gateways and applications. Currently UCP and some kind of HTTP based protocols have been implemented. It is also possible to develop a new gateway and relate this gateway to the existing applications and/or to new applications. Since the gateways developed have been implemented by Java language, they are platform independent.

Applications such as ring-tone and logo download, chat, voting and J2ME application download are currently running on the platform. These kinds of applications and other ones can be added to the system easily. It is possible to implement an application fully in PL/SQL language as an embedded application to Oracle DB (stored procedures) or in another high level programming language like Java.

Administrators of the technical platform can get basic reports and check the status of the applications from a web interface and also, built-in stored procedures can be used to send periodic SMS and e-mail reports.

OPERATING PERFORMANCE & EFFICIENCY

Retromedya’s operator-grade network functions on a geographically redundant, fault-tolerant network—achieved through multiple connection points, routers, firewalls, switches, and globally-distributed servers. Retromedya network handles mobile data traffic equivalent to that of major operators, delivering nearly fifteen million messages each month. In addition, our robust queuing capabilities ensure that messages are never lost.

Performance of the platform is dependent on two factors: one is the performance of the gateways and the second one is the performance of the applications.

UCP and HTTP gateways; which are responsible for sending and receiving SMS messages; have 64 SMS/sec and 10 SMS/sec messaging speeds with one connection respectively. In addition, these messaging speeds can be increased with mounting more connections.

Depending on the application type, (chat, voting, polyphonic ring-tone download etc.) the performance varies. For example, current chat applications have 100 SMS/sec speed. In case of applications that need more speed, this limit can be increased up to 500 SMS/sec with one Oracle DB. Also, it is possible to increase the performance of the platform by adding more DB and Gateway servers and balancing the load among them.

There is %99 up time in servers. When any hardware or software failure occurs, the backup servers that have redundant copies of the platform are being activated. 24 hour technical support is available and system allows SMS alert commands for disaster recovery.

Retromedya offers complete solution to service providers, a Java based full redundant architecture which allows clients to send and receive messages up to 200 transactions per second. Clients are also capable to charge mobiles directly for WEB/WAP based contents. Communication between retromedya and client is based on Web Services, so it can be implemented easily on most of programming languages. Also we supply ready-to-use Java Client API to clients who are using Java as the programming language.

REPORTING

Using our network's robust data mining capabilities, we provide our customers with valuable data about their message traffic as it flows to its destination. Using our Web-based reporting tools, our customers can track and analyze traffic trends, such as message origination and termination by operator, time to deliver messages, peak traffic times, and active link monitoring. We also have a vigorous anti-spam monitoring component that raises alarms on suspicious traffic. Parameters are completely configurable and provide flexible filtering options.
